Barrett deixou Pink Floyd em 68, antes do estouro mundial da banda
O fundador e ex-líder do Pink Floyd Syd Barrett morreu, aos 60 anos. A informação foi confirmada por uma porta-voz da banda.
"Ele morreu serenamente, há uns dois dias", afirmou a porta-voz. "O funeral será privado e familiar."
Barrett, guitarrista cujo nome original era Roger Keith Barrett, nasceu em 1946 na cidade inglesa de Cambridge.
Lá ele conheceu o baixista Roger Waters e o também guitarrista David Gilmour, também futuros membros do Pink Floyd.
Ele formou o grupo com Waters em 1965. Na época do primeiro álbum do Pink Floyd, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Barrett era o líder da banda e autor da maioria das músicas.
Entre os primeiros sucessos da banda, compostos e cantados por Barrett, estão Astronomie Domine, Arnold Layne e See Emily Play.
O guitarrista lançou-se a experimentações com drogas alucinógenas, como o LSD, e sua música revelava muito dessas experiências.
Mas aos poucos o consumo de drogas, ligado a uma tendência à esquizofrenia, começaram a prejudicar a atuação de Barrett como músico.
Ele chegou a ser visto, durante shows, parado no canto do palco apenas olhando para a platéia, aparentemente desconectado do que estava ao seu redor.
Saída da banda
Em 1968, ciente de que Barrett já não conseguia desempenhar bem suas funções de cantor e guitarrista do Pink Floyd, os outros membros do grupo chamaram seu amigo David Gilmour como um segundo guitarrista.
A formação com cinco membros durou pouco tempo, e ainda naquele ano Barrett deixou a banda.
No final dos anos 60, ele gravou dois álbuns solos, com a ajuda de David Gilmour e Roger Waters na produção, Barrett e The Madcap Laughs.
Depois de anos sem contato com o Pink Floyd, em 1975 Syd Barrett reapareceu no estúdio em que a banda gravava o álbum Wish You Were Here, que já no titulo (Gostaria que Você Estivesse Aqui) fazia uma homenagem a ele.
Barrett, que estava com a cabeça raspada, não foi reconhecido imediatamente pelos membros do Pink Floyd. Foi a última vez que ele teve contato com a banda.
Em 1988, foi lançado o álbum Opel, uma coletânia de gravações inéditas de Syd Barrett.
O baixista Roger Waters, que assumiu a liderança do grupo após a saída de Barrett, dizia que não seria bom para a saúde do ex-guitarrista se os dois se encontrassem.
Nos últimos anos, Barrett, que também sofria de diabetes, ainda vivia em Cambridge.

uai pq o tópico veio pra cá, afinal ele era um guitarrista né ? foi mal, eu não vi q já tinham criado um tópico sobre isso aqui...
de qq maneira é lamentável, esse cara era um gênio, o 1o disco do floyd é ótimo com grandes composições: astronomy dominé, mathilda mother, lucifer sam, scarecrow, bike, interstellar overdrive, praticamente todas são nota 10, o estilo era diferente mais próximo do som dos beatles do q do pink floyd q conhecemos... o 1o disco solo dele tb tem umas coisas mto legais tipo, terrapin, esse foi o verdadeiro pai do rock progressivo !!!

Olha, sem querer bancar o metaleiro TRUE fodão... apenas gostaria de salientar que ach oas musicas do syd barret (tanto da carreira solo, como as com o pink floyd) chatas pra caralho.
Na minha opinião, a melhor coisa que poderia ter acontecido ao pink floyd foi a saida dele e a entrada do gilmour

Sim, mas sem ele talvez a banda não tivesse se formado.
Enfim, agora o cara morreu e muita gente vai dizer que amava ele, ele era O CARA etc.

eu comecei a ouvir música por causa do syd..
isso em 98.. sim, ele tinha q sair da banda, mas tinha q ter entrado na banda.. boa parte do que existe em pink floyd não passa de homenagens e tal.. quem acha chato, é pq não gosta, tudo bem, cada um ouve o que quiser.. mas a música não é chata pq vc não gosta.. a vc acha chata pq vc não as entende..
